“Hubert Franz Pollaschek of Keremeos, B.C. passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife, after a long battle with cancer on Thursday February 4th, 2021 at the age of 58. Hubert was born in Hannover, Germany on January 12th, 1963. Hubert leaves behind his loving wife of 8 years, Theresa Baxter and His step-children Bailey and Noah Baxter. His beloved family in Germany; brothers Thomas and Manfred and also his sister Marion. Hubert spent much of his life in the town of Uslar, Germany where he had many friends including his best friend Jorg. He had a precious and caring heart when it came to animals especially cats. He was always rescuing abandoned and abused kitties. Hubert's adventures in Canada began in 2012 after meeting his wife online and deciding to uproot his whole life to move to where she was. Hubert was an uncomplicated man who enjoyed life's simple pleasures, and he embraced the Okanagan valley as his home. He loved working in the orchards, restoring old cars and spending time at the water in the summertime. Anyone who met Hubert enjoyed his quick wit and sly, funny jokes. Whenever times got tough, Hubert was always supportive of those around him, telling people "Kopf hoch". Hubert’s dreams of a long life in Canada with his wife were cut short a few short months after his permanent residence status was granted, when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Hubert refused to let this diagnosis define the last few years of his life, following his heart and living his last years his own way with no fear of what was to come. He was very brave and fought a hard battle, independently. He loved his family and friends, cherishing every minute spent together. The family would like to thank LPN's Hannah and Cesar as well as Lorraine, Leanne, Debbie, Val and Eirinn for their compassionate care of Hubert while he was in Orchard Haven's palliative room during his last days. Hubert will be very deeply missed, always loved and his memory will never be forgotten.”
